Christie Gardens Virtual Art Show

“Dancing Grasses” (After Peter Sheeler) Watercolour on paper

We have active art activities at Christie Gardens, where I live, and we have a talented art coordinator in Adriana Monti. In normal times, we have a group that meets each Saturday afternoon in a dedicated arts and craft room, where we do our thing, be it painting, sculpting, writing or making things from found objects. It is a self-directed effort, and the best thing that comes of it is simply socializing with neighbours and catching up on the latest gossip.

In the hour before the meeting, I show some of my large collection of art DVDs, mainly of watercolour artists demonstrating their techniques. This has proven so popular, that I am about to run out of DVDs and will need to use YouTube - that is, whenever we can use the little theatre again.

I usually sketch during the meetings and some of the results are contained in the attached PDF file, which represents the first in a series of “Virtual Art Galleries” set up by Adriana. Normally, the actual art would be on display in our Recreation Room, but all such spaces are now out of bounds during the pandemic, hence Adriana’s initiative to bring art to the community.
